In A Path With Heart Jack Kornfield says, "Those who are awake live in a state of constant amazement." We must be wide awake because I can't think of a better word to describe the summer of 2000 at Ring Lake Ranch. It was an amazing

Our first seminar for hospice staff and volunteers brought a beautiful group of warm and caring folks together from around the country. David Quigley and I were privileged to be leaders and spend time with this group.
We were delighted with two more session of Elder High School boys and their teachers from Cincinnati. The Ranch certainly comes alive with their energy and delight, as well as the seriousness of their participation in their retreat sessions. For many of them this is a first experience of the "west", horses and mountain hiking.

Tom is doing well and is back to work as a hospital chaplain. Our hearts were deeply moved also by the decision of Marcus Borg to dedicate his new book on the bible, which is in press, to Tom Haller and the Ring Lake Ranch Community, August, 2000. This will be a remarkable memento of this powerfully grace-filled time.
Our post-season sessions of Fly Fishing and Theology, and Elderhostel brought the summer season to a close, as snow decorated the Ranch. It had been a summer blessed by great enjoyment, giving and wise seminar leaders, wonderful spirit and generosity in guests, volunteers, and staff, great concern for Tom Haller in his injury, deep sadness in the deaths of three of our horses, and a real sense of community and connection. We were blessed through it all, and are so grateful for all the support and love and gifts we share.
